About the Doctor

Dr Shalini Bhaskar is an accomplished neurologist with a strong educational background. She graduated from Madras Medical College and obtained her Masters in Internal Medicine from Universiti Sains Malaysia, Kelantan, where she also became the first recipient of the Advanced Master in Neurology. She received specialised training in epilepsy at Sri Chitra Tirunal Institute of Medical Science and Technology in Kerala, India. Currently, she holds the position of Associate Professor and serves as the Head of the Neurology Unit at Hospital Universiti Teknologi MARA in Puncak Alam. Dr Shalini is actively involved in professional organisations such as the Epilepsy Council Malaysia (ECM), The Southeast Asian Therapeutic Plasma Exchange Consortium (SEATPEC) and Malaysian Society of Neurosciences (MSN). She is also a panel member for the Epilepsy Practice Guideline 2024 and Multiple Sclerosis Consensus Guidelines. Throughout her career, Dr Shalini has garnered numerous prestigious awards and recognitions. In 2007, she was honoured for delivering the Best Oral Presentation at the 6th AOMC Scientific Meeting & Neuroscience. In 2013, she was nominated for the esteemed ‘Women of Excellence’ Award, recognsing her outstanding contributions in the field of health sciences. In October 2021 she received the Rising Star Award from the Malaysian Stroke Council, recognising her growing influence and impact in the field of stroke. Her research interests focus on the clinical and genetic aspects of epilepsy and migraine. Dr Shalini has also contributed significantly to the field of neurology through her numerous publications in both international and national peer-reviewed journals.
