Dr Navinakathiresu commenced colorectal fellowship training in July 2019 at Hospital Sultanah Aminah, Johor Bahru, a high‑volume tertiary colorectal centre. He continued advanced training at Hospital Canselor Tuanku Muhriz, Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia, from January 2020, with focused exposure to laparoscopic colorectal surgery, functional pelvic floor disorders and research. Subsequently, he completed his Colorectal fellowship training at Hospital Selayang from July 2020 to August 2021, with emphasis on advanced laparoscopy, pelvic floor disorders, proctology, and research. Dr Navinakathiresu later undertook a Peritoneal Surface Oncology Fellowship in Milan, Italy, from September 2021 to May 2022, and was awarded a diploma by the European School of Peritoneal Surface Oncology.

 

From January 2016 to June 2019, Dr Navinakathiresu served as a General Surgeon at Hospital Tengku Ampuan Rahimah, Klang, a high‑volume tertiary surgical centre. During this period, a wide range of general surgical procedures were performed, with a developing subspecialty interest in colorectal surgery. Earlier surgical training was undertaken between 2008 and 2016 as a Registrar and Resident Surgical Medical Officer at Hospital Tuanku Jaafar, Seremban, and the University of Malaya, providing a strong foundation in general and specialist surgical practice.

 

Dr Navinakathiresu is a Life Member of the Malaysian Medical Association and the Malaysian Society of Colorectal Surgeons. His memberships include the European Society of Surgical Oncology and the European Society of Coloproctology.
