About the Doctor
Dr. Gangaram is the most senior and the first Dermatologist at Thomson Hospital Kota Damansara, bringing nearly five decades of medical experience since 1978.
With over 40 years (since 1986) of dedicated practice in Dermatology, he is widely recognised as a pioneer in Laser and Dermatosurgery, Cosmetic / Aesthetic Dermatology and Sexually Transmitted Diseases. His distinguished clinical career in dermatology includes service at Hospital Kuala Lumpur (1986–2008), Prince Court Medical Centre (2008–2025), and Thomson Hospital Kota Damansara (2008–present).
During his tenure at Hospital Kuala Lumpur, Dr. Gangaram served as Head of the Laser and Dermatosurgery and Sexually Transmitted Diseases subspecialties, where he was instrumental in pioneering modern dermatological laser techniques and advancing subspecialty services in Malaysia.
A committed educator and mentor, he was among the pioneering trainers and lecturers of the Advanced Masters in Dermatology Programme established in 2001 through collaboration between Hospital Kuala Lumpur and Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia. He played a vital role in shaping the next generation of dermatologists by training postgraduate candidates and delivering lectures in General Dermatology to medical students from Universiti Malaya, Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia, and Universiti Sains Malaysia.
Dr. Gangaram has also been a leader within the dermatology fraternity. He served as President of the Dermatological Society of Malaysia (2004–2006) and was the founding member and first Chairman of the Cosmetic and Laser Medicine Board of Malaysia (2006–2011), further solidifying his position as a pioneer in aesthetic and laser medicine governance. He continues to contribute regionally as one of the five Board Directors of ADLAS (Asian Dermatologic Laser and Surgery Research Group). The other four are from Singapore (two), Philippine (one) and Thailand (one).
His outstanding contributions has earned him numerous prestigious awards, including the British High Commissioner’s Award (Chevening Scholar, UK, 1987), the Fulbright Scholarship (USA, 2002), the Excellence Service Award from Hospital Kuala Lumpur (1999), and the KMN national honour (2002).
