Dr. Jamalul Azizi is a consultant respiratory physician, or pulmonologist, with more than 20 years of experience. He graduated from the Royal College of Surgeons in Ireland and obtained his Master’s in internal medicine from Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia. After completing his respiratory subspecialty training, he underwent interventional bronchoscopy training in Marseille, France, and pioneered rigid bronchoscopy practice among pulmonologists in Malaysia. He also initiated the first bronchial challenge test and cardiopulmonary exercise testing (CPET) in Malaysia. He has a special interest in interventional bronchoscopy, pulmonary physiology, airway stenosis due to tuberculosis, and bronchoscopic lung volume reduction for COPD (emphysema). He has published two books as Chief Editor: (1) “A Case-Based Approach to Interventional Pulmonology: A Focus on Asian Perspectives” and (2) “Endobronchial TB Airway Stenosis: Malaysian Perspectives.” He is the first Malaysian pulmonologist and only the second Asian pulmonologist to receive the prestigious WABIP-Dumon award for his generous contributions to enhancing others’ technical skills in rigid bronchoscopy and improving knowledge and understanding of central airway obstruction.
