GERD, also known as acid reflux occurs when your stomach acid backs up into the oesophagus causing irritation and heartburn.
A condition where your stomach lining becomes inflamed. It may occur suddenly (acute) or gradually (chronic).

Gastroscopy
An examination using the endoscope – a thin, flexible tube used to look inside the upper digestive tract including oesophagus, stomach and first part of the duodenum
Oesophageal Manometry
A test that shows whether your esophagus is working properly and to measure the function of the lower esophageal sphincter (the valve that prevents reflux, or backward flow, of gastric acid into the esophagus). The test will tell the doctor if esophagus is able to move food to your stomach normally.
pH Study (Reflux Monitoring)
The pH study or reflux monitoring functions to measure the pH or amount of acid that flows into the esophagus, during a 24-hour period. Commonly used to help identify the cause of various symptoms, including heartburn, chest pain, chronic cough, and asthma.
